TEXT:
"Old Timer! Do You Remember When…" The eastern portion of Eureka, bounded by 1st & 4th and M & W, was a ranch owned by S.F. Pine. The ranch was pretty much covered with azaleas, though it has enough pasture to support several dairy cows. The ranch was subdivided and houses were built, mostly for the men who worked at the Carson Mill. The youth of the 'Pine Pasture' section of town became known as the "hard-boiled kids" who ranged into other parts of town, such as Tannery Gulch (3rd & L), and Summer Street. And, the 'Silver Spoon' boys of uptown also felt the effects (got beat up).
