The Jolly Giant mill was one of the first sawmills in the Arcata area. Charlie's mill is near Jolly Giant at the east end of the street that runs east from Murphy's Store. Charlie began building his mill in 1935. He's been making shingles since 1908. He started in Isaac Minor's mill in Glendale. In Fieldbrook in made shingles for 16 yrs in the old Burns Manufacturing company shingle mill more commonly known as Camp Four.
