"Diversion of Trinity River Assailed in Report" The five man committee appointed by the B.O.S. to investigate the proposed diversion of the Trinity River by the B.O.R. submitted their report to the B.O.S. The proposed diversion was brought to the attention of our area at a meeting on Aug. 16, 1950, in Arcata. On Nov. 17, 1950, at a meeting in Eureka, Claire Engel suggested that four county's (Humboldt, Del Norte, Shasta, & Trinity) appoint committees to investigate to determine the desirability of proceeding with such a project. In 1931 when the Central Valley Project was proposed. One part proposed impounding the waters of the Trinity at Lewiston & divert to the Sacramento RIver at Keswick for hydro power & for irrigation. As originally proposed it would divert 700,000 AF to the Sacramento River & release 350,000 AF into the Trinity. However, now the BOR proposed to release 120,000 AF to the Trinity & divert the rest. Shasta & Trinity Counties oppose the div. unless they get some revenues from the sale of hydro power. Del Norte opposed. The Humboldt county committee voted 3 to oppose it; 2 to work with the BOR because they are going to do it regardless.
