Baron Luffenholtz arrived in Trinidad in 1851 with a sawmill outfit and Swedish spruce lumber with which he built a building. He constructed a mill near the mouth of Luffenholtz Creek. His building was on the Gastman Ranch. In 1852 Byron Deming rebuilt a mill at this same spot and he ran it until 1853 at which time in moved it to Trinidad.
