TEXT:
Excellent article on the erosion of the bluffs between Patricks Point and Big Lagoon. Mentions the "big sugarloaf hill" which fronts the ocean for a distance of 1&1/4 miles. Every few minutes large areas of the cliffs fully 300' feet high slide into the sea. This has been going on ever since the recent severe storm and the sea has already worked itself back over 300" feet. The county road has been washed away in several places and there appears to be no prospect of the cessation of the ravages of the ocean waves until the whole hill is gone. A.J. Harris of Orick reports the narrow strip of sand that formerly protected the high cliffs has been washed away by the high seas of a few weeks ago & that deep water extends up to the foot of the bluff.
