TEXT:
State Highway Engineer Somner said work should begin on the Redwood Highway between Willits and Cummings, a 40 mile stretch. The grade 4 miles north of Willits will have a 6% grade and follows the present County Road. The State Highway Commission also intends to construct the section from Garberville to Miranda which is all that remains to be built in Humboldt County. This coming summer the 30 mile section that runs north from Cummings will be completed by convicts. This is been the worst piece between San Francisco and Eureka because it went up to Bell Springs and was almost impossible in winter. About 50 men are building bridges and they have a portable sawmill to make timbers for the bridges. The $1.5 million bond issue voted in at the last election won't be available until July 1.
