Excellent history of the dairy industry in the Eel River Valley. (1888) 20 yrs ago a colony of Danish people settled in this - richest section of the county and began dairying. Creameries began to spring up. The Eel Valley contains 54,000 acres. At the present time the State is placing rip rap work on one of the most dangerous sections of river bank near Fortuna. Ferndale population = 1200. Shippers from Ferndale take their produce to one of three points. Alton and Singleys on the NWP railroad line or to Port Kenyon where the bars becomes too dangerous. Fortuna population = 2000. It has a 20 acre Redwood park which it acquired last June 1907.
