Port Kenyon history is in the article. In 1857 John Gardner Kenyon bought 60 acres on the banks of the Salt & laid out a town with lots. The spruce covered lots cost $50/acres to cear & were sold for $40-$50/acres. In 1878 plans were fostered for a railroad to Eel River valley and Port Keryon- which led to a land boom. That petered out. Salt River was navigable for 5 miles. At Port Kenyon the water was 14' feet deep at low tide.
