Abstract
In the early 1990s residents of the lower Mattole River (Humboldt County, CA) watershed created the Mattole Watershed Alliance to work on improving Mattole River conditions toward the common goal of preserving populations of wild salmonids. The collection provides information about the group's activities and the challenges that the initial goodwill and successes could not overcome. The Alliance's goals, actions, and group process are described in "The Mattole Watershed Alliance: A Case Study of Community-Based Consensus" by Brain, Meyer and Rafferty which is included in this collection.

Scope and Content of the Collection
In the early 1990s residents of the lower Mattole River watershed created the Mattole Watershed Alliance to work on improving Mattole River conditions toward the common goal of increasing the populations of wild salmonids. The materials in this collection provide information about the group's activities, publicity provided by local newspapers, and some notes pertaining to the challenges that the initial goodwill and successes could not overcome. The Alliance's goals, actions, and group process are described in "The Mattole Watershed Alliance: A Case Study of Community-Based Consensus" by Brain, Meyer and Rafferty which is included in this collection.
Arrangement of the Collection
Dan Weaver integrated the materials from the two batches into categories that reflect the way the group did its work and tracked its activities. There are instances where the same documents will be found in more than one file: one in chronological order and one by subject.
