Abstract
This is a very rich history of the multiple departments relating to Speech, Drama, Theatre, Communication and more, from the initial offering of one course in Speech/Drama in 1914, and the first production on December 3, 1914 of “Her Own Way,” by Clyde Fitch, at Pettengill’s Minor Theatre. The narrator, and primary creator of the collection of performance photographs and playbills, is Dr. John Pauley. The collection complements his “Story of Humboldt State University Theatre Arts Department” covering the years 1914-1979.

Special Collections Librarian Erich Schimps worked with Theatre Arts Professor John Pauley to assemble this collection from department and institution produced materials in the 1980s; additional material was donated by Dr. Pauley ca. 1997.
Biographical Information
John Pauley was a professor in the Speech Department and the Theatre Arts Department from 1952 through 1979. He wrote a history of the Theatre Arts Department from 1914-1982.
Scope and Content of the Collection
This is a very rich history of the multiple departments relating to Speech, Drama, Theatre, Communication and more, from the initial offering of one course in Speech/Drama in 1914, and the first production on December 3, 1914 of “Her Own Way,” by Clyde Fitch, at Pettengill’s Minor Theatre.
