Acquisition Information
As Berg's Eureka Field Office was closing in late 2008 arrangements were made for most of the files to be donated to the Cal Poly Humboldt Library Special Collections.
Biographical Information
Patty Berg represented the 1st District in the California State Assembly from 2003 to 2008. She represented Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity, Lake, and part of Sonoma counties. Connie Stewart served as the Eureka Office Senior Field Representative during that time.
Scope and Content of the Collection
The collection consists of subject files created to serve Patty Berg's need for information for carrying out her legislative responsibilities and for serving the needs of her constituents in Del Norte, Humboldt, and Trinity counties. To comply with state privacy laws the files containing personal information about constituents were removed from the collection before it was transferred to Cal Poly Humboldt.
Major subject areas include Aging, Healthcare, and Klamath River and other significant issues of that era, as well as files for most local governmental entities, Indian tribes, and most communities throughout Del Norte, Humboldt and Trinity counties.
Arrangement of the Collection
The files in boxes 1-15 are arranged alphabetically and remain in the same order that they were in Berg's Field Office; number of folders per topic if not noted is one. Boxes 16-20 contain the contents of many 3-ring binders that had been grouped by topic, and certificates of recognition (some framed). A few files that arrived a few weeks after the bulk of the collection were either integrated into the alphabetical arrangement or were removed and cataloged. The Container List is composed of file folder titles and binder titles. A list of titles removed from the collection and cataloged follows the Container List.
