TEXT:
Article describing the large wave generated in Lituya Bay, Alaska 200 miles north of Juneau. The wave was generated by glacial debris shaken loose by a large earthquake on July 9th, 1958. A 60'+ high wall of water was generated. Eye witnesses said about 500 yards of the soth end of Khantaak Island heaved 20' into the air and then fell into the bay. The small 44' fishing boat was anchored in Lituya Bay and was swept over a 200' wide spit and went down stern first and stuck with the pilot house just above the water. The boat was hit by trees, brush, and timber sweeping along in the wake of the wave.
