History of Stone Lagoon Schoolhouse by Savina Barlon. School closed June 10, 1958. Closure caused by construction of the new $160,000 EL School. It was called Blaine school up until 1899. The first schoolhouse was a log cabin The current one was built in 1891. Thomas MacDonald lived on Big Lagoon Flat & Elk camp. He had up to 150 pack animals part of the mule train serving Orleans Bar. Hans Hendrickson came to Stone Lagoon in 1896, left for Norway, came back in 1900 and purchased 160 acres surrounding Little Road, from John Alderson, an english bachelor that lived at Dry Lagoon. The article has two photos of the schoolhouse, one in June 1958 and another prior to 1923.
