Whole page dedicated to Englewood (Redcrest). The area was originally known as Englewood but the northern sector recently developed into a reset and business area known as Redcrests. In the 1870's John & Henry Davis came to Humboldt come from England, selected this spot & called it Englewood. Henry's son Nelson now lives in Rio bell. His wife said the road only came as far as Rio Dell when the settled the land. From there you had to pole a boat upstream. John Davis is still alive, a quiet man of 97 yrs. He lives in Eureka. They sold out. The first title brought down by a guarantee Co. is dated 1874 according to Richard Childs. Redcrest got its name from a combination of the red hair of Mrs. Mabel McHenry and their motel (Arthur & Mable) was on the crest of a hill. This was about 18 years ago. Prominent in the dev. of Redcrest are Don Turner and Bill Murphy, both native Humboldt S & brothers-in-law. Don Turner owns 640 acres & raises sheep and cattle. The first Turner into Redway was Don's uncle William J. Turner who bought 640 acres from Lawrence Chapman in 1881.
