Log & Saw. Hammond Lumber Company timber was hauled from Big Lagoon (Maple Creek area) to Samoa by railroad up until the big 1945 fire burned 23 of their railroad bridges. So they switched to truck hauling from Blue Lagoon to Crannell. There the logs are transferred to railcars & hauled to Samoa. There was 45 miles of railroad tracks within the Blue Lagoon track & the 1945 fire. The large diesel off highway trucks carry 8000-9000 BF/load. They can store 15,000,000 BF of logs in the pond.
