Whole page on Myers Flat by Chet S. It was first settled by Elias Myers in 1867. Later on, his son, U.S. Grant Myers, developed it into a resort farm Morrison & Jackson Lumber company have dev. a planing mill. Population ~ 250. Guy F. Clooney, postmaster, has lived in Myers since 1925, at which time they brought & rebuilt the store. Myers Park down on the river was a former Eureka boy scout camp. About 125 men work at the mill which was organized by 4 brothers in 1943. It turn out 40,000 BK/day. The new planing mill added in 1948 can handle 200,000 BF/day. It not only handles the company's lumber, but also that from about 12 neighboring saw mills. The company operates its own logging jobs & sawmills & planing mill. They have a loading dock at South Fork & shore it with several other mills. The school has 23 pupils in grades 1-6. Older kids attend SoFK High at Moranda. Mrs. Mottie Nelson (wife of U.S. Grant Myers) is the local historian. She says Elias Myers bought "squatters rights" from two men, Farris and Brock, & founded the community at Myers. Grant built the old hotel in 1915 & planted apple & pear orchards on the 160 acre ranch. Another early settler in the area was John Logan who come in 1857 and owned 1200 acres in Miranda. There's a photo of a swinging cable bridge for pedestrians over the SoFk river there at Myers Flat.
