Large swells washed over the South Spit knocking out sections of the road - trapping cars. Two oblique aerial photos with captions along with an article are on this page. 8' feet diameter logs were washed into the bay. A half mile strip was covering the spit with water 6' - 8' feet deep at the height of the peak tide of around 8' feet.
