Cabins owners took action last night at the B.O.S. public hearing on the order by G.P. that some 60 cabins must be removed from the site. Three reps of G.P. were present along with an overflow crowd of cabin owners. The cabin owners appointed a committee to sit with county officials to deal with G.P. The door was left open for an equitable agreement by Dudley Jones, president of Dudley Jones Company, a Portland real estate brokerage firm, G.P. counsel Frank G. Breuer, and G.P. attorney Tom Withycombe. Jones agreed to extend the County's lease of the site for 5 years. A seven member committee, headed by Ward Falor, was selected from the audience to try to find a way to preserve the cabin development. DPW's Charles H. Shaller suggested the owners form a corporation to buy the site from G.P. This would avoid a number of subdivision ordinance regents . One man in the audience stated if G.P. sold lots individually to cabin owners, compliance with subdivv. Zoning regulations could not be met. Jones said we would be happy to meet with you if you form a corporation and give you a price. He said lots in the company 150 - 200 acre subdiv in which this site is located, are selling for $2,500 - $4,000 a piece and overage a little less than 1/2 acre. Superv. Bill Landis listed the options the cabin owners had. Ward Falor asked for a show of hands of those who wanted to form a corporation & the B.O.S. asked for a show of hands who wanted a 5 year lease extension. Both votes were unanimous. One person asked the B.O.S. to condemn the site for a summer home rec. area. County counsel Thomas Montgomery & Shaller pointed out that if that was done the cabins would not be saved since the was of the condemned site for recreation would be limited. Shaller said G.P. has orally agreed to grant the county 20 acres along the beach free of change and to sell the county another 20 acres. He said the county plans to dev. the area below (north) of the cabins as a day - use rec area. This will include boat launching facility & a picnic area. Montgomery said he will render an opinion on whether the area could be retained as it is if a corporation is formed & bays it from G.P. or whether it will fall under subdiv laws.
