TEXT:
Yesterday the Humboldt Malt and Brewing Company formally opened its reconstructed plant down on South Broadway. Just 80 yrs ago, Captain Ulysses Grant stopped his horse here at the spring at the bottom of the hill that led up to Fort Humboldt. The spring is the reason the original brewery located there. Over 30 yrs ago a unpretentious wooden structure was erected here which was the beginning of a small brewing plant. It was well underway when a fire wiped it out. So, a splendid new brick structure was built. The beer was sold all throughout the Pacific Coast and continued until the plant was closed by a Mr. Volstead.
