The tablet at Fort Humboldt was dedicated yesterday (Saturday) by the Calif. D.A.R. Many people attended. Judge Hunter presided. He came here 60 yrs ago (1864). He noted only two man still survive, who had served at the Fort. One, Sargent P.G. Tuttle, of Fortuna , siad " We didn't want to kill Indians, but we had to." He was setting in a seat of honor up front during the ceremonies. The boulder on which the marker is placed, come from Mendocino Rock. The land was deeded to the RW chapter of the D.A.R. by Mr & Mrs. Warren S. Cooper of Eureka.
