Lucius Case Tuttle died. He was a resident since 1862. He lived at 1033 I st and was 91 yrs. old. He was born 4/29/37 in Brooklin, N.Y. At 4 yrs. old his parents moved to Chicago. A year later they settled in Plainfield, Illinois. In 1850 his father came to CA and followed gold mining to El Dorado Co. where he built one of the first quartz mills in CA. In 1860 he married Leah J, Rutan and in 1862 they started across the plains and arrived in Sacramento on Sept 11, 1862. In 1864 he moved to Sherwood Valley in Men. Co. where he settled on a 540 ac. ranch where he lived for 15 yrs. In 1882 he purchased a 10,000 ac. ranch on the S.F. Eel meeting with great success in stock raising. In 1901 he moved to Eureka. He obtained J.W. Henderson's interest in the Hum. Co. Bank and the Home Savings Bank. His wife died about 7 yrs ago (1922) and he deeded his 10,000 ac. ranch to his Frederick. After Fred died a few yrs. ago the ranch went to the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Flora Tuttle.
