Will Speegle's Column - In 1893 J.W. Livinghouse established a sanitarium called the Arcata Gold Cure. This hospital was on the main street and treated alcoholics and those addicted to morphine and other narcotics. The results were very satisfactory. After a few years it was no longer needed and no patient was charged for services unless a complete cure had been made.
