Norman R. Smith Collection

Norman Smith's diaries were written from his retirement home at Moonstone Beach, Humboldt County, beginning in 1918 when he learned of the death of his son. He titled the diaries "The Bridge" and continued writing them through 1938. Smith recorded daily activities, including the weather, as he boldly visioned the future development of the port of Trinidad in his 1924 "booster" publication with photographs by Lois Smith, his step-daughter.
