Old photo furnished by George Minot which shows a load of logs being hauled to the mill. There appear to be horses used in this photo. At first logs were hauled by oxen. Then horses were later used. Before oxen and horses, logs were transported by or in streams. In 1875 the first single spool steam donkey came into use for skidding from the stump to the main skid road. 10 yrs later large bull donkeys and horse teams came into use which finally displaced the bull teams almost completely by 1900. The skyline, slack line and high lead all came into use after 1916. The first tractor was used in the 1920's. In the early days it is estimated that as much as 80% of the reduced was wasted. Now (1947) waste runs about 30%.
