TEXT:
The rains raised the water level in Elk river high enough to float about 40 million bd ft of logs down to where they can be easily handled. They were jammed up in the North & South Forks. Old timers had not seen the river that high in 20 years 1861. Same thing occurred on Mad river. Vance's RR track is badly washed out in several places. His new bridge is ok. Hannah's field was all under water. The water came up to the Dolly Varden Mill & stood 18 feet beep on the floor of the fire room. The bridges on the road from the mill to Prigmore we're all floating. The bridge across the canal of Mad River near the boom was carried away. Jacoby creek & Freshwater creek were out their banks. Though this storm produced high water, it's not as high as last years storm (1878).
