"Remember When" column by Speegle. Summary of Ryan, Duff Co. The partners in 1852 were James R. Duff, A.W. Torry and Frank Duff. They ran the steamer Santa Clara ashore between C + D in 1852. Some relics can still be seen under the wharfs where the vessel was grounded. A sawmill was set up on shore and the vessel furnished the power which ran the mill. It operated until 1859 when it burned. He surveyed Eureka.
