TEXT:
The Chief of Engineers of the COE gives a history of improvements to Humboldt Bay harbor in his report for 1900 [sic] page 4237. Should be 1909. In 1882 a project to improve the harbor entrance was adopted and called for a low jetty 6,000 feet long to extend seaward from the tip of south spit. This design was modified in 1888 and 1881 whereby parallel jetties 8,000 feet long were to be built. Work began 1889 and completed in August 1899 at a cost of $2,040,203.35. This provided a channel 29' feet deep at low tide.
