TEXT:
USGS in a statement issued on 12- 22- 1927 has found a basin on the Middle Fork Eel in Mendocino County which offers a valuable storage site for power. The discovery of this site emphasizes the value of the Eel to Humboldt county & the necessity of keeping it for the use of the people of its natural drainage valley. The report notes that an engineering study of the Eel in 1922 by the Geol. Survey, D.O.I. , disclosed that the value of the Eel for power was dependent on the ability to store flood water in Round Valley. The best dam sites were just below Elk Creek and Mill Creek. The Mill Creek site is the only good one from a geological standpoint. The report is by H.T. Stearns.
