Whole page on the Don Bass Power Plant. This 1/2 ship was towed into Humboldt bay on Nov. 3, 1946. 7 weeks later it was producing 5,400 kH to provide a portion of power needed to the growing community of Eureka. PG&E bought the American made ship (built in 1944 & loaned to the Russians) for $125,000 & towed it to Humboldt Bay. It had wrecked in the Aleutian Islands in heavy weather in Feb. 1946, when it broke in half. The surviving 1/2 was towed to Port Angeles, Washington.
