Whole page of text & photos of the collection of Indian artifacts collected by Mr. & Mrs. Jack Wright of Petrolia. The Wrights knew several of the last remaining Mattole Indians- such as: Old Malor Clark, Squire Morrison, Indian Jack, Tom Scott, and Isaac Duncan, who died last year. Mrs. Wright, 58 yrs ago (1891) watched an Indian women make bread out of acorns, they found 3 knives made from flint, 7' feet deep, near Davis Creek. The Wrights moved to Petrolia in 1908 & call their home Briarcrest. Jack Wright's grandfather, Lucian, arrived in the Mattole in Feb. 1860 from Wisconsin. Mrs. Wright's father Fayette Titus, came to Petrolia in 1862. Their son Curley Wright, is with the USFS & lives in Fortuna.
