Whole page on Trinidad Recreation Area by Chets. The Lumberjacks Association of Arcata met with Earl Hallmark, owner of the beach & waterfront, & said they would dev. the area so the public could drive down to the beach. President of the Lumberjacks Association is Brousse Brizard of Arcata, with Ted Lightbody as Secretary, and Otho Davis as vice president. Bob Hensel, former highway engineer, heads the Association's Trinidad Rec Commission. Bob drew up the plans for the development. The old whaling station, kettle & brick chimney had to be taken down & some big rocks that stood in the way had to blasted out of the way of the new road. The Association wanted to show the county & state what can be done with just one rec spot. The South Spit of Humboldt Bay and Big Lagoon are ripe for some type of dev. If it isn't done - and soon- those places will be taken over by private clubs, and everybody else will lose out. Earl Hallmark has made much of the dev. possible.
